Subj : Digital Projectors To : ALL From : JAY EMRIE Date : Thu Sep 08 2005 11:57 pm Our Camera Club is in the process of seriously getting into digital photography. Not just using a digital camera and PhotoShop (which many or maybe most of us already do now) but projecting digital images via a digital projector for judging in our competitions Slide film is getting harder to buy locally already. One of the larger Camera stores here had only ONE, that's right ONE, roll of 35mm slide film for sale the other day. approximately 80% of their display space consisted of pure digital! I believe it will be necessary to buy a digital projector with the best specs with reference to first, resolution, then contrast ratio, then brightness in that order. Brightness isn't too great a consideration since our projection distance will be approximately 15'. Contrast ratio is of considerable importance but it seems that even the cheaper digital projectors have good contrast ratios i.e. 2100:1 so that isn't much of a worry. The biggie is resolution. It looks like 1024 x 768 is the tops till one gets over ABOUT $1500. Dell's top of the line has native 1400 x 1050 SXGA+ and Auto Sync up to UXGA 1600 x 1200 but the price tag is $3,500!!! Keeping this more on topic is the program necessary for doing the digital projection. Power Point just will not cut the mustard. It didn't take much use of it to prove that point. Neither will ACDSee. Neither project the image quality we must have. So far PicturesToEXE (http://wnsoft.com/apr/index.html) seems to be the best choice. It works with 95 on up thru XP and seems to do everything we desire for our use. Any suggestions as to the projector and/or program would be welcomed.
