I was referring to the heated exchange CA>> here in the Win95 echo about XP not working well on legacy CA>> hardware. About that I am not wrong. AA> And there is a solution: AA> http://www.zdnetasia.com/insight/network/0,39044847,39114881 Using the above URL: "We're sorry, but the requested page is currently not available on our site." AA> ...you just haven't looked very far. Or not soon enough - seems they've removed the page? CA>> Nice tweaking info but we were talking about CA>> out-of-the-box installs for relatively unsophisticated CA>> users. AA> I'm not aware that anyone INSISTED that XP /needed/to work AA> "out of the box". That was implied if not spoken/typed outright. CA>> Yes and killing unused/unneeded processes would be CA>> another. Not relevant to newbies though. AA> Then I fear there might be a huge inconsistency your way of AA> thinking. XP is a new OS with all the bell's and whistle's AA> turned on. Well prior to SP2 all the bells and all the whistles were NOT turned ON. Remember? AA> Nothing wrong with that, right? Essentially, your complaint AA> is that "out of the box", XP doesn't work on legacy pc's. AA> Well.. RTFM and turn the those default settings off. AA> There are many people and resources here and elsewhere that AA> can help with the learning curve of XP. I appreciate your suggestions, really I do no sarcasm but you have gotten the wrong impression. I've used XP and tweaked XP several times (half dozen or more) but I do not use it here on my desktop machine. It was on a laptop I borrowed several times for my trips across the state of Michigan. I did everything you have mentioned and more but I still didn't like XP. It's not horrible it's just a bit too 'cute' for my tastes and a bit of a resource hog to boot. I did like the free included movie editor that comes with XP Pro. It was easy to use and did a good job for me. Nothing else I particularly liked about XP that I can think of right now. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ....
