Thanks, Jeff. I will check this out, but I hold little hope as his
problem is missing just ONE icon (MY Computer) not all icons.

JG>CDROM drive and needed a load of the OS.  I pulled the hard drive and put it
JG>in my laptop, booted DOS from floppy, prepared the drive and copied files.

The above, short of obtaining a CD drive for the laptop, seems the be
the most viable solution. He says he can purchase a CD drive for his
laptop from someplace on the net. I hope he does. That will simplify
things considerably. Thanks again. I will get the laptop Thursday week.
