Subj : Modem Dialer To : Steve Quarrella From : Bennie Hutto Date : Thu Jul 13 2000 09:04 pm bh> Don't blame you, but I use basically the same setup and have bh> toyed with Argus but can't seem to get it the way I want it, SQ> Maybe I can return the favour and help you with it, although I've had SQ> a good teacher (David Moufarrege). Our NC here in 393 is pretty eager SQ> to learn this stuff, and I'm all too happy to pass on the knowledge. David's also helped me out on a couple of occasions, real nice guy, and quite patient :) bh> eh, oh well... I'm anxiously waiting for the next release of bh> ViaMail which should solve the telnet mailer-to-mailer problem. SQ> Would definitely like to see Irex support Telnet, and I was thinking SQ> aloud in the Irex support echo that we need someone to create a Win32 SQ> Vmodem. WinFOSSIL doesn't count, given that it's been abandoned and I SQ> can't register it. [sigh] As is with alot of software these days. bh> In REXCFGW, check the 'Connecting to the Net' options, make sure bh> the Auto Hangup says NO, this should prevent REX from hanging up bh> the phone. Also, instead of using any default batch files that SQ> And then I can control the hanging up from the SQ> command line. That's an idea. Then I just need something to wait, SQ> maybe 30 minutes, before writing that exit semaphore. If you mean Argus's exit semaphor, see below, if you mean REX's exit semaphor, disregard the below. SQ> Argus'll just give up if I run it prior to my net connection, but it SQ> WILL try again. That's worked pretty well in some of the manual tests SQ> I've run here. Personally I use the Windows Task Manager, I have my mail toss event and then 1 minute later have the rexmail.bat execute, I believe you could do the same with Argus, execute your rexmail.bat file (or whatever you named it) which will call out and -fetchsend your mail and not hang up the phone, give it a minute or 2 and then have the task manager execute Argus? All you'd have to worry about then is hanging up the phone. BTW, you may want to make sure the scheduled *time lengths* are set to your needs for task manager to close Argus. SQ> You've gotten me in the right direction, although I'm surprised there SQ> aren't any plain and simple dialers out there that can do as I SQ> requested originally! [No, RASDIAL doesn't count. ] SQ> Thanks again! No problem, again if I can help further let me know, and let me know how things work out. Best regards, Bennie ....
