Subj : networking To : Alan Zisman From : Dennis Haddox Date : Sat Sep 04 2004 02:31 am Alan, I have been having a problem with networking a WinXP Pro computer with a Win98SE computer. My daughter's computer has XP Pro that acquired a nasty virus that I couldn't get rid of after 2 days of trying. I finally just fdisk'd and formatted it and reinstalled XP Pro. I applied all the patches including SP2. Everything is working great except for transferring files between one folder on both of our computers and giving her read only access on 2 other folders on my computer. It has something to do with permissions but I am not quite up to speed with XP and all this permission stuff. When I try to transfer a file from her computer to my computer, it says that access is denied and to check to be sure I have the correct permissions. If I try to send a file to her computer from mine, it asks for a password to \\\IPC$. Any password I enter is rejected. I read where I needed to make my account on her computer and use my password, which I did but still didn't work. I also tried going into the computer management tools menu and give access to my account, her account and "everybody", but that didn't work either. I am either doing something wrong or none of this has worked. It worked ok before I reinstalled but now it doesn't work. Could you tell me what I am forgetting to do or not doing correctly so this will work? Also, the shared folders show up on both of our computers but I can't access hers and she can't access mine. ....
