Subj : Stupid question number 72 To : All From : Bennie Hutto Date : Wed Jun 07 2000 08:12 am Well, here I went again... I recently installed what was termed as a 'DSL management' program (yes, without doing a backup... go ahead, kick me now...), and after finding out it was some kind of program from one of those 'free DSL internet access' companies, I uninstalled the program. Now almost any program that requires the use of Winsock or Winsck32 (I can't figure out which) will give me a "File access denied" message. For example I run a TradeWars Game Server which when starting up it shows how it's starting... when it reaches the point of "Initializing Winsock", it gives the file access denied message, and will not start. Almost the same goes for NetModem, when someone telnets to the BBS it will allow the caller to access the BBS but the "File access denied" message dings in the background, so it doesen't affect NetModem *that* much, but still I would like to get this error corrected. I've tried everything short of reinstalling Win98 completely. I can access and surf the net, my FTP server runs fine with no errors, and I've reinstalled the affected programs (that I've found so far), all with no change. Something has locked or partially locked up the winsock, how can I find out what is affecting this and correct it?(fingers crossed I don't have to do a complete reinstall). I'm running Win98SE, and yes I removed the drivers the program installed from the Network settings area of the control panel. Thanks for any advice. .... If you're balding, install Windows and you'll pull the rest out. ___ Blue Wave/386 v2.30 --- ViaMAIL!/WC v1.60d * Origin: The Wall BBS, Augusta Ga. Where the fun never ends! (1:360/5) .
