When was the last time you ran DiskCleanup?  It's in the "System Tools" 
section.    When you start it up, it will already preselect recommended folders 
that shouldbe empty.  Allow it that to happen.  Wait for the harddisk activity 
to cease before you continue with anything else.   The TemporaryInternetFiles 
can accummulate quite a lot.  Also make sure you RecycleBin is empty.

BTW...Windows version are you specifically using?

Also get into the habit of running SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware to help trap trojans 
and other malware that can busy themselves on your computer without your 
knowledge.
