I run a program in the background, which loads at startup, called "Barclock". it is a small app that sits in the top right of the screen and is a 'reminder' type program. You program into it upcoming birthdays, appointments, things to do, etc. At the appropriate time it either plays a sound and puts up a message box, or.... and here it is..... runs a program of your choosing. There are a number of options with this prog. if you check the "Run program" box you must then specify which prog to run. I must have accidentaly checked this box without realising it. I usually only check the 'Play sound and pop up window' box. I found that the 'Run program' box was checked alright, but no program was specified, so the computer simply ran a prog of its choosing (whatever it was. i still can't figure out which one it ran!) And I had programmed it to run at 5.45am each day. There is another box which also says "Display on startup if missed", this was also checked. And as I usually boot up after that time each day, it ran the program. So there you have it, mystery solved. Many thanks for your time and effort. Cheers Craig SW>Hello Craig!
