CAUSE The Windows 2000 TCP/IP performance counters (Perfctrs.dll) are attempting to extract I/O control information from a network device, but no network device (network adapter, modem, and so on) is present in the system. RESOLUTION To eliminate the event message you can safely disable the TCP/IP performance counter by following these steps: Run the Exctrlst.exe utility from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. Locate and then click the following extensible performance counter entry in the list: TCPIP Perfctrs.dll Click to clear the Performance counters enabled check box for that counter only. Quit the utility, and then reboot the system. After you restart the computer, the event entry should not appear. This has no effect on system performance or usability, even if networking is enabled in the future. STATUS Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. -------------------------------xxx---------------------- Best wishes, Malcolm --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+ * Origin: Tardis BBS +61 3 9819 7093 (3:633/260) .
