Yer exactly right.  Even a PNP ISA card isn't going to share IRQs.  The only
choice is a separate resource for each such card, especially something as old
as a 1542B.

Bootability is a function of the BIOS, which needs to be enabled.  Are you
getting the proper POST messages pertaining to the BIOS installation?  Is the
bootable device SCSI ID 0 or 1?

You betcha.  It's not a slot thing but a simple conflict due to the lack of
sharing capability of that ISA card.
