Subj : Win2000 refuses to insta To : Rich Wonneberger From : Jeff Guerdat Date : Mon May 29 2000 02:44 am On 05-28-00, Rich Wonneberger said to William Grinolds: RW>The Compaqs we get at work can share IRQ 11 with the NIC, video, and RW>Adaptec 2940 SCSI on the PCI bus. When I tried substituting an RW>older 1542B SCSI card (ISA) which also uses IRQ 11, it RW>didnt work. System kept locking up. Tried other slots, RW>same thing. When I changed the IRQ to 10 on the 1542B, it RW>worked fine, but only for CD, tape & such. It would not RW>boot the h-drive. Yer exactly right. Even a PNP ISA card isn't going to share IRQs. The only choice is a separate resource for each such card, especially something as old as a 1542B. Bootability is a function of the BIOS, which needs to be enabled. Are you getting the proper POST messages pertaining to the BIOS installation? Is the bootable device SCSI ID 0 or 1? RW>I suspect there's something there with sharing the IRQ on RW>PCI slots that doesnt work when you mix in ISA cards. You betcha. It's not a slot thing but a simple conflict due to the lack of sharing capability of that ISA card. ___ *Durango b211 * DurangoMail for Windows NT/9x --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: COMM Port OS/2 juge.com 204.89.247.1 (281) 980-9671 (1:106/2000) .
