Subj : W2K RAS problem To : All From : Jeff Guerdat Date : Thu Sep 14 2000 12:58 am I have a new W2K system and have a RAS dial-up to my employer set up. Works fine. However, when I disconnect, a remnant of the dialup session remains. It appears that the remnant of the PPP adapter is causing logoffs and shutdowns to fail - I never get to the "Saving your settings" dialog box. If I reboot without hanging up first, the reboot is successful. If I hang up first and then reboot or log off, the hang occurs, apparently due to the OS trying to clear the network connect. If I never dial, there's no problem. I've reinstalled W2K over the existing installation with no help (although it did fix another problem with BSOD and Veritas Backup Exec Desktop). SP1 reinstall doesn't help. Here's the output from IPCONFIG /ALL after hanging up: Windows 2000 IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : stuff Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter Version 1.0 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-A0-CC-30-E0-29 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 24.92.226.13 24.92.226.174 24.92.226.172 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Monday, September 11, 2000 8:04:18 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, September 17, 2000 8:04:18 AM PPP adapter LSI: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : The PPP adapter doesn't exist until I dial.
