Subj : W2k and Tyan Thunder 2 m To : All From : Jeff Guerdat Date : Fri Jul 28 2000 02:16 pm A new challenge - I've installed W2K in a fresh installation on my Tyan Thunder 2 (1696DLUA) system. This has built-in SCSI based on the Adaptec AIC7895 chipset (same as the AHA-3940AUW). Works fine under NT4 but the "A" channel doesn't get a driver loaded. Not a huge deal at the moment since the hard drives (both wide devices) are on the "B" channel but it would sure be nice to get "A" working for the CDROM drive and CD writer. I've called Tyan which suggested turning off ACPI and trning on power management, This does nothing nor does enabling all the features (including PNP) nor disabling them all. It almost looks like it doesn't want to share an IRQ (the USB controller and 3COM 3C900B NIC are using the same IRQ) but the "B" channel works nicely with a Linksys 10/100 NIC as well as the Diamond Viper 330 AGP video card. Unfortunately, I can't manually set the IRQs in either the BIOS or the OS. The rest of the install went fine, including adding a couple of non-OS-supported devices (a SIIG dual PCI parallel port card and a parellel port digital camera memory card reader). The problem occurs well before any of these even get to be an issue - I have to install from an IDE CDROM drive since the SCSI one will produce an "inaccessible boot device" error once the driver is loaded and initialized during the text portion of the install. I'm willing to try anything - my wife is out of town and I have 'WAY too much time on my hands... ___ *Durango b211 * DurangoMail for Windows NT/9x --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: COMM Port OS/2 juge.com 204.89.247.1 (281) 980-9671 (1:106/2000) .
