Subj : Re: Lost software license To : Adam Flinton From : Rich Date : Fri Mar 30 2001 01:20 am From: "Rich" <@> You purchased a license. With proof of ownership of the license you = can get a replacement for a lost or damaged CD-ROM. With a book, music = CD, or cell phone you can't. Why not, different products with different = license. Note, not only did you loose the jewel case you also lost the license = certificate which is also the certificate of authenticity. That is if = you had real product and not some pirated copy. Rich "Adam Flinton" wrote in message = news:3ac458d5$1@w3.nls.net... "Rich" <@> wrote in message news:3ac2a4cf@w3.nls.net... " It's a sticker. You don't want a sticker on the CD. The MSDN = CD-ROMs for Windows 2000 have the license key as part of the label but I = believe that everyone uses the same key. I wouldn't expect every CD to be = unique. That would seem to be very expensive. To make sure I just opened the Windows 2000 shrinkwrap box I have for the first time and as I = expected the sticker is on the jewel case. I don't see why Adam would have different expectations for losing = the physical software product than he would for losing a book, music CD, = or a cell phone." All that money & all I've bought is a sticker???? Flaming heck....hang on..if this is the case then why all the = holograms etc? Surely if it's the Stciker which makes the product not the CD then MS = should print lots of CD'es & leave them in bins in PC shops. You could then = pick up say five (as backups) & then independantly pay a couple of hundred = pounds for the sticker. I repeat I haven't lost the "physical software product ". What I had = lost was the Product Key / number. Adam --- XP Toss HTML Stripper v0.3.5 * Origin: Barktopia Gating Project (1:379/45) .
