It would be nice to be able to have a utility that could listen on ports for a 
large number of protocols and that knew the basic initial negotiations of each 
protocol in order to see whether, for instance, a remote user has a user name 
and password for, to take an example, network neighborhood log-on to machine.

Basically, the idea is to be able to interact enough with would-be attackers to 
be able to find out how much they know about your machine. If you think you 
didn't have security high enough and now have raised it and firewalled things 
more thoroughly it would still be desireable to monitor later hacker attempts 
in a way to find out whether a hacker may have previously successfully gained 
entrance.
