What's it for? RP>I wish the Services window had a Properties detail that let you see the exe or RP>dll or sys path and file that each service loaded from. It'd make it a little RP>easier to understand what each service was. RP>--- BBBS/NT v4.00 MP The computer browser service is used for maintaining the list of computers on the network. Each network as one master browser which maintains the list of the computers. Only computers with the computer browser service active can participate in browser elections which determine the master browser based on the operating system of all of the systems in the network. The operating systems are ranked from lowest to highest as follows: Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Windows 95 Windows NT Workstation or Windows 2000 Professional Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 Server The systems with the highest ranked operating system in the list of those in use on the network are the only ones which may be elected a master browser. Disabling this service on only those computers which can win browser elections can reduce network traffic. On Windows 9x setting the Browse Master setting in the advances settings for the File and printer sharing service will disable it.
