Subj : Windows XP Product (re)activation To : All From : Ross Cassell Date : Wed Mar 12 2003 04:50 pm Hello All! Premise... New Motherboard and cpu chip, same floppy, cdrom and hard drives, new video card. Since LAN and sound came built into new motherboard, one less PCI sound card and one less PCI LAN card. A week later, I replace the CD-R/W burner with a faster model. Yesterday, I replaced secondary hard drive that appeared to be on verge of failing (drive migrated from prior setup)... After all of this hardware changing, I was not asked to "re-activate". Today the internal ATAPI ZIP 750M drive came and I installed it, I disconnected the DVD reader as I dont and never used it. I have a playstation and a DVD player connected to the TV. I plan to get another CD-R/W and a separate ATA controller to replace that anyway. After this I was asked to reactivate.. I did so with 3 or 4 mouse clicks, w/o having to pick up the phone.. Now when you consider that the only remaining hardware left over from my original setup is the primary hard drive, floppy drive, keyboard and mouse, I cant say that the notion of re-activation is all that revolting when you consider all that I changed compared to the screams of conspiracy I have heard over this activation stuff. == Ross Official Fidonet Region 18 Home Page: http://www.region18.info BBS: http://www.the-estar.com:8080 - telnet://the-estar.com ross@easternstar.info | ICQ: 5305939 | Blog: http://www.iblog.us ....
