IMHO, I don't think there is a 'shared' register that handles the IE and UPS 
control. But then again, I've seen some really bizzare stuff happen where you 
toggle the toilet and the electric can opener started working. Beats me. :)

It won't do any damage to try your theory though, I'd love to hear the 
results.
