Subj : permissions To : Phil Simpson From : Jay Fuller Date : Tue Dec 24 2002 08:48 pm PS>My thanks to Michael Grant and Jay Fuller, who were extremely helpful in PS>solving my problem. Turns out Michael was correct, it was a permissions PS>problem. Also, Jay led me to the solution. Wow......you mean I did something? :-D PS>The problem was that I couldn't del a couple of files in my temp fir after I PS>had writen them to a CD. I remember that well :) PS>files. Which brings me to a couple of questions. when I logged in as PS>phil, which had admin rights, why couldn't I del those files. PS>It seems that although admin has full rights, it doesn't have rights for PS>another admin account. Didn't realize that. Aslo, if I ever have any more of PS>these troubles, do I have to go back to safe mode to get into Adimistrator PS>account, I see quite a few folders and dir with this owner.(Administrator) Also, a lot of times the rights are for the CREATOR/OWNER, which can be some real fun if that creator is actually the SYSTEM. PS>While I'm here, I'll get a few more questions squared away. :) Here's the PS>scenario. Two users on the computer, mine and my daughters. Now, Kazza and M PS>which I don't need on my end, she uses quite a bit. How do I go about settin PS>it up so if/when I logon to my account, I don't have to see this stuff and v PS>versa with a lot of my fidonet stuff for her. Also, at startup I have my vir PS>checker fired up and my firewall. Do I need these to PS>also start in her account? Little confused with some of this, as it seems so PS>programs don't want to try and start when it's already running som ewhere el PS>Hope I'm making some sense. :) I'm in the process of buying Win XPPRO and PS>want to get a better understanding before putting that puppy up. Are you familiar with the registry? If not, I'll be more spercific in my next reply. As for now, right click on the Start Menu with an account with administrative privledges. That should give you a menu of everyone's start menus, including everyone's individual startup folders (which controls, only partiaully, what is started automatically when the computer starts). Everything else is controlled via registry entries or various startup files.....some of which are user spercific, and some of which are machine spercific. I'm still trying to find out how to add entries to various registry files without having an "active" user logged on . ;( Good Luck, and Merry Christmas. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Internet: jfuller@airnet.net Fidonet Netmail: 1:3613/22 -->> Internet HOMEPAGE: http://www.airnet.net/jfuller <<-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ * OLX 2.1 TD * Staff meeting in five minutes in the Observation lounge!! --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: Deep Space Nine BBS - dsnbbs.dyndns.org - 256.734.0818 (1:3613/22) .
