Subj : permissions To : All From : Phil Simpson Date : Thu Dec 19 2002 11:51 am Hello All! My thanks to Michael Grant and Jay Fuller, who were extremely helpful in solving my problem. Turns out Michael was correct, it was a permissions problem. Also, Jay led me to the solution. The problem was that I couldn't del a couple of files in my temp fir after I had writen them to a CD. When I log on I see usually myself /phil or my daughter /stacy. Quite often I don't even see that as I put it on auto and it goes right to my profile and starts up there, in case I'm not around for the reboot. At least my fido mail will start up and continue to run. First thing, I went back to the old way, where you have your options as to which profile you plan on using. I didn't see Aministarator in these options, just myself or stacy. But, when I took Jay's advice and went to safe mode, this time I saw Administrator there for an option. I used it and then I was able to proceed down thru the many dir's and /finally/ del the couple of troublesome files. Which brings me to a couple of questions. when I logged in as phil, which had admin rights, why couldn't I del those files. It seems that although admin has full rights, it doesn't have rights for another admin account. Didn't realize that. Aslo, if I ever have any more of these troubles, do I have to go back to safe mode to get into Adimistrator account, I see quite a few folders and dir with this owner.(Administrator) While I'm here, I'll get a few more questions squared away. :) Here's the scenario. Two users on the computer, mine and my daughters. Now, Kazza and MSN which I don't need on my end, she uses quite a bit. How do I go about setting it up so if/when I logon to my account, I don't have to see this stuff and vice versa with a lot of my fidonet stuff for her. Also, at startup I have my virus checker fired up and my firewall. Do I need these to also start in her account? Little confused with some of this, as it seems some programs don't want to try and start when it's already running som ewhere else. Hope I'm making some sense. :) I'm in the process of buying Win XPPRO and want to get a better understanding before putting that puppy up. Have a nice day!
