Subj : Win2K Pro TCP/IP traffic To : All From : Lawrence Garvin Date : Tue Sep 17 2002 07:49 pm Greetings All! My Win2K Pro installation of MS Messenger v4.6.0079 is generating UDP packets on a continuous and recurring basis (every 24 seconds to be exact), originating from port 3581 and targeted at port 1900 on the default gateway. The only reason I was able to identify this is because the "default gateway" happens to be the protected interface of my firewall, and the hits are being logged and refused. It's no big deal to me.. I just shutdown the MSN.. was only using it for team exercises for school anyway, which are now over. But.. I am curious.. what exactly is MSMessenger trying to do that my firewall is not allowing it to do? --- * Origin: lawrence@eforest.net | The Enchanted Forest (1:106/6018) .
