Its a MS program..

Is the laptop new?

If so, perhaps one of the support/alert programs the mfr of the laptop includes 
is trying to phone home.. (not spyware)

Many worms and spyware could conceivably be trying to phone home or propogate?

Run Adaware or Spybot S&D as well as a up to date AV program, see what turns 
up..
