Subj : STL Containers w/ Virtually Zero-Overhead Lock-Free Reads... To : (Usenet) From : Chris Thomasson Date : Mon Sep 19 2005 02:36 pm Should it be done? I wonder how popular a read optimized and memory barrier free library of STL containers would actually be. Does anybody know if there are any plans to incorporate "zero-overhead" lock-free techniques into the STL? It seems that something like this is going to be badly needed in the near feature... The performance difference between normal lock-free and zero-overhead is quite remarkable. Perhaps I should create a demo virtually zero-overhead container class... Would anybody be interested in such a thing? [ See http://www.gotw.ca/resources/clcm.htm for info about ] [ comp.lang.c++.moderated. First time posters: Do this! ] .
