Linux threads are very much like processess, but linux scheduler is O(1) and processeses are verrry lightweight. I don't have experience with 10k concurrent connections w/ Linux thread per connection, but 500-600 I do. Processor load goes as high as 1-2% on 500 connections to DC hub and I've used three threads per connection. Up to 15000 context switches per second and no sweat on P4 2.4 w/ 1GB. dd .
