I have posted this question on comp.unix.solaris.  I am reposting here
on this newgroups to get more exposure.

Is there an atomic instruction to clear a byte which was set with
"ldstub"?  Or does it not matter?  Would a store instruction like
"stub" or "st" guarantee an atomic operation?  Thanks.
