Thank you for kicking me in the ass.  I guess my I/T skills are slipping 
since I left.  A quick look at the log files and the smb.conf told me 
what I needed to know.  I  allowed accesses from all ip addresses that 
matched 192.168.0 because that was my internal subnet.  I didn't allow 
for the VPN users who come in as 192.168.1.  Changed the conf file and 
all was better.   The one lesson I learned in my years in I/T was 
learned again: the biggest problems have the simplest solutions.
