Subj : Which Mail Transport Agent ESMTP or SSMTP ? To : alt.comp.os.linux,comp.os.linux,comp.mail.misc From : markhobley Date : Sun Dec 19 2004 02:04 pm What is the difference between the Debian packages Esmtp and Ssmtp ? Am I correct in thinking that Esmtp can deliver local mail via a mail delivery agent, whilst Ssmtp cannot? I want all my mail delivered via a dedicated (mail server) computer on the LAN. I am guessing that all computers, except the mail server can use Ssmtp as a Mail Transport Agent, which can be configured to deliver any messages to the central mail server. I am guessing that the mail server requires the Esmtp, because it has the local mailbox. Is this correct ? I have previously used Exim on the mail server to deliver messages to the local directory ~/Maildir/ in Maildir format. Can Esmtp be configured to do the same ? Do I need to install "Deliver" as a Mail Delivery Agent for Esmtp ? Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer any of this.
