Subj : yet another kernel panic trouble :( To : comp.os.linux From : aCiD_HouSe Date : Mon Dec 13 2004 05:12 pm i wanna first say hi to everyone, and apologize for my bad english :))) i'm experiencing a problem i really can't fix, niether looking through the web nor asking my friends. this is the fact: i've build, following various helps-howtos-hints, a personalized gnu/linux system for my work (it's a part of a larger project, but this isn't that interesting :)) ) and i usually booted from a toshiba 20GB hard disk whithout any problem. this disk has an ext2 partition and a swap one. now, recently i managed to put all the stuff on a 256MB ATA flash (seems like people calls it a DOM, but my knowlendge is really poor), so i fdisk'ed the flash and put it into ext2fs with mke2fs, without any error, then (aparently without troubles) i wrote GRUB into MBR using root (hd0,0) and then setup (hd0,0), 'cause the disk is supposed to be the only one in the box. the trouble is that, when i boot, i see GRUB's menu asking for kernel entries, i make my choice and the boot starts (i even see the splash image under the boot messages!) but then i reiceive the fatidic and well known error: unable to open an inital console kernel panic: try to pass init= etc etc i'm sorry i can't manage to write the full boot messages, but i haven't it with me, maybe i can manage to retrieve it in some days, but it doesn't seem to show any error, exept for something like "late driver registration" or similar. the flash memory is correctly identified like a "Transcend 256M ATA Disk", and the FAQ of their site says it can be used to boot an operating system *exactly* like any other disk. has anyone any suggestion/experience regarding this problem? thanks to everybody in advance, you people are my last hope :)))) have a nice day!!!! carlo .
