Way back in the day of DOS, you could do things from the command line.
But the majority of users wanted point-and-click: they got it. My ole
lady sits at her xp and points and clicks for ages trying to get to
where she can do something. I open a term, whip out a CLI or two, and
I'm done. She's still clickin'. 
Welcome to the Linux world. If you're not afraid to learn, you will
acquire power (over your OS, degrees on customization not available
from windoze, etc). 
Once again, welcome to Linux.
