Yes.  This strategy should work but I prefer to isolate linux even further.
Leave it on the slave drive, but use a boot floppy to load grub from the
linux drive, then the grub boot loader can continue to boot linux from the
secondary or windoze from the primary.  This leaves the MBR on the primary
drive completely intact in case something goes wrong.  You just need the
boot floppy to get access to linux.
