i have the very same problem as DJ, 
well dont worry none of your data would be lost .. even mine didnt get
lost .. but in panic i removed m. linux and installed windows again (
that would be the worst case scenario ).. instead try installing grub
loader instead of lilo then try again .. is this doesnt work then you
know what to do :-)
