Any thoughts? http://www.distrowatch.com/ http://www.ubunto.com/ It's yet another Debian clone, which is probably a good start. In the Linux clone market, it seems as if half are based on Debian, and half on Red Hat. It _seems_ to be getting positive reviews on Distrowatch. It also appears to be on their toes with regard to security updates. A quick scan at Bugtraq shows Mandrake with 21 notices, Gentoo with 25, Conectiva (a Brazilian distro) with 10, and Ubuntu with 15, all over the past 30 days. A few minor nits - why is the _first_ release labeled 'Ubuntu 4.10 "The Warty Warthog Release"'? Advertising gimmick? It's stated "includes more than 1,000 pieces of software" which is rather sparse compared to the "main line" distributions like Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Mandrake, Slackware, or SuSE. Also, I haven't seen much actual activity reported in the regular 'comp.os.linux.*' news groups. But is claims to be free (and you can certainly download it), and some of the cheap CD houses are offering it very cheap. Give it a try - all you can waste is your time. Old guy .
