With even a basic outline of your setup someone would be able to go behind you and access the data on the new linux drive. This would let you use the Linux file system of your choice. FAT 32 would work, but it might be a step backwards if you goal is security and stability and I wouldn't bet the farm on being able to slap it into a win32 box and magicly get all your data back. You could also use NT backup from a win32 box to backup the data on the Linux share so that if need be it could be restored to a windows partition in the event of failure. Just my 2 cents, Chris .
