Then, from the CLI, type "visudo" and add the wheel group (with or without password, as you like) and you will be able to do many more things as a user. Remember, that when you are in the CLI, you can't umount a directory that you are actually in. IOW, if you are in /mnt/cdrom, you can't umount /cdrom. You have to at least fall back to /mnt or your /home directory. Check /etc/fstab and see if your cdrom is "supermount".
