Subj : login delay To : comp.os.linux From : Tomislav Date : Tue Oct 12 2004 03:22 pm Hy everyone, I have a login question... When I log in with correct information i get a ~10 second delay during which there's no disc activity (or, as far as I can recall, any CPU activity). Then xfce suddenly loads in ~2 seconds and everything works fine. The same thing happens when I log into the console instead of X: I still get a delay, and not only when I log in, but also when I log out. And now the really fun part: this only happens when I'm not logged in: if I'm logged in on tty0, for example, there's no delay on tty1 and so on. This behaviour is user independent (I created a new user and got the same symptoms). PAM documentation is clueless, I didn't find anything problematic in my .profile and related scripts, /var/log/auth shows clearly that logging in takes ~10 seconds, but doesn't give me a clue as to why...I still have to look at /etc/profile (or whatever it's name is), but to me it seems like waiting for some sort of a timer, maybe an error recovery procedure. Ideas, comments, suggestions anyone? Thanks, Tomislav .
