Subj : How to detect cdrom tray status (open or closed)

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to determine the status of my cdrom tray. The
goal: to write a program that closes the tray when it's opened, and
opens it if it's closed.

If you know of a way to determine the tray status, please tell - I
don't care if it's a difficult piece of assembly, a C function or a
big program.

PS: The drive in question is a Philips DVDR824DP DVD +-R/RW burner.
