Subj : Printing problems under RH FC2 with CUPS on Epson Photo Stylus 890 printer To : comp.os.linux From : Jeff Silverman Date : Wed Oct 06 2004 06:03 am When I try printing from Mozilla or with the enscript command or the lpr command to my Epson Photo Stylus 890 printer, the print out will cover anywhere from the 1st inches of the page to the first 4 inches of the page and then skip to the bottom of the page. The printer worked fine under Redhat 9.0 and Fedora Core 1, but this behavior began after I updated to FC2. Also, using the simple text editor works properly (it must bypass part of cups). Open Office also works properly. Curiously, the US postscript test page has a different failure mode: it starts too late: the top of page, everything from the redhat logo on up is missing. The right edge, 2 inches or so of print, is missing. If I view the generated postscript with ggv, that's fine. But even if I print from ggv, the print is truncated. I changed the LogLevel in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf from info to debug and I am glutted with information. The only thing that leaps out from the log file is that printer is reporting that a status of 18 (Media tray empty). The problem light on the printer does not light however, and the printer apparently is printing. So I believe that the error message is spurious. I tried changing from the gimp-print-ijs driver, which is recommended, to the gimp-print driver, which does not print anything at all! Nor does the omni-print driver! No obvious error message in those logs either. I tried updating cups to the latest version using yum but that had no effect. rpm -q -a | egrep "gimp|cups" mtink-gimp-plugin-0.9.51-1 libgnomecups-0.1.6-7 cups-libs-1.1.20-11.1 cups-1.1.20-11.4 xsane-gimp-0.92-10 gimp-data-extras-1.2.0-11 gimp-print-utils-4.2.6-11 gimp-print-4.2.6-11 gimp-print-plugin-4.2.6-11 gimp-2.0.4-0.fc2.1 Does anybody have any good advice, please? Many thanks, Jeff .
