There is an open file in /var that is huge.  The filesize doesn't show up
in du until the file is closed but shows up as used space in df.

use

fuser /var

to see what process has files open in /var.  terminate that process and
you'll see the file's real size.

to drill down into the directories and see what directory/files are taking
up the most space use

cd /var
du -sk * | sort -n
