Subj : Upgrading glibc?

I want to install an RPM of some software but it requires glibc-2.3.4 and I
have glibc-2.3.2.  However when I try to install it I get errors saying that
other packages depend on 2.3.2.  Is it a futile task to try and upgrade?
Will I end up breaking a bunch of software on my RH 9.0 installation?  Can't
multiple glibc versions reside on the same system?
