Is this fair? Kindly re-read the sentence - I'll re-write it for you if you can't parse: Sorry, I have the second edition, <--- That's one statement and the fourth edition (ISBN:0-596-00272-6) has been out for 20 months. and that's the second statement, referring to your pointing at the older third edition which is not in my local store any more, and is therefore a useless (to me) reference. Also remember that "Running Linux" is an introductory level book. Once you gain experience, you'll find that level of information is no longer suitable. Perhaps you'd find the material in Chapter 24 of "Practical Unix & Internet Security" by Garfinklel, Spafford and Schwartz (O'Reilly 3rd edition, ISBN 0-596-00323-4, February 2003, US$55) more useful, especially the lower half of page 779. If you can only find the older second edition (ISBN 1-56592-148-8, April 1996), nearly the same information is found in Chapter 25, on page 767. Now, would you like to try again? Old guy .
