Neither the first edition (viewable as the 'Install-Guide' at the Linux Documentation Project, or the second edition admit to _security_ enhancement. Care to expand? If the partitions are mounted, then security comes in permissions and ownership. If they are not mounted, they are as safe whether there is 2 or 30 - root can still see them and the contents.
