I don't know what you did.  Did you tell Mandrake to start at runlevel 3
instead of runlevel 5?   What error messages are you getting. What did
you say about the new card? Can you #start X from the console ?   

Worse case replace the new card with the old card reboot, fix for old
card, replace old card with new card and try again to install the new
drivers and the correct runlevel.
