Subj : ATI Radeon 9000 framebuffer problem with x

Hey everyone,

I've just installed the latest version of Gentoo on my system and I've just 
emerged and configured Gnome, but when I go to run it using 'startx' I get 
an error message saying that the X server cannot be started in framebuffer 
mode.  I have a Radeon 9000 and I get the same problem on my laptop as well, 
which happens to have a Mobility Radeon 9000.  Does anybody know what's 
going on or possibly even how to fix it? I'd really appreciate any help.
