My thought entirely. It's simplistic to say which is better because it depends on who you are and what your needs are. I would say it is getting to the point that Linux is the best option for the completely computer illiterate. The semi-illiterate will want play around with their OS but are likely to hit problems. The completely computer illiterate will normally be happy with the default set up. Hence for them Linux is just as good as Windows without the price. I say getting to the point because modems and firewalls are the one key area where distros do not reliably set up with a default option. .
