I've just restored my system from an AMD 1.2 Athlon just this past monday (8-30). The problem with mine was the motherboard was talking to me though the PC speaker, something about "the processor is not working properly or is not inserted correctly. Or there could be a proble with the lithium battery." Something like that. Anyway, I knew that it wasn't the processor. It was the motherboard. Because I had gone through this exact same ordeal with my wife's computer. Same exact brand and all (they were bought at the same time). The problem was the cheap SOYO motherboards that were used. The processors actually still work in other motherboards. But I've upgraded to the 64 bit world now. Hope you get it figured out. .
