Subj : Problems trying to capture  Kernel Oops on serial console

My 2.6.8.1 kernel is pretty flakey, falling over every few days.  I have 
discovered a way to make it fall over every  few minutes.. (woohoo)

I want to capture the oops on the serial console, as have a kernel dev 
who is interested.  I have compiled a kernel with serial console support 
and added "console=ttyS0,9600 console=tty0" to my grub boot loader.

I can see the kernel messages on the serial console during boot, however 
when it crashes, nothing is sent across the serial link.  Have I missed 
something obvious???
