.... nope. it's called freedom of choice. you are
free to choose the distro that matches YOUR
requirements.  there are efforts to standardize
certain aspects of Linux and those will come in
due time.

the best course is to decide what you need from
a distro and decide on one that provides the 
facilities you require. i'd say that any of the
top 10 at distrowatch.com should fit almost any
person's needs. there are many others to choose
from, of course.
