Every once in a while, when in a GUI (any GUI, even MS Windoze), my
computer will just randomly freeze. And at that point i would have no
mouse or keyboard input, all screen activity (progress bars, page
loading, anything) will just stop. The strange thing is that this only
happens when a GUI is up.

So I loaded Windoze 2000 (most stable version, still doesn't compare),
and it'll sometimes get to the GUI, or sometimes freeze when "loading"

Linux (SuSE 9.1, default kernel ver) loads up to init 3 just fine if
dma is disabled, but it can't stay GUI for more than about 10 minutes.

Personally, i don't mind running without dma, but not having a GUI can
be an inconvenience at times. I'm going to see if changing bios
settings or using a different graphics card helps. any advice would
help a lot
