No you are not quite obsolete yet, RHL8.0 is somewhat old, but it is still useful and while not supported by Red Hat some updates have been make (suspended now) at; http://fedoralegacy.org/ If you decide to upgrade then any of the distro's you mentioned are just fine. But you will need to at least make backups of everything of importance; settings, personal data and whatever else you find to be important. Plan, test and execute this before upgrading. > My main use is for developing applications in C or C++ with libraries > like fltk, MesaGL 6.0, glut 3.7, linpack and more. I mostly use g++ > compiler. Vmware works just fine with any of the new distro's you might want to download the update (get the one latest available) for vmware and patch before starting your vmware configuration; http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/ The current version available is; vmware-any-any-update82.tar.gz > What do you think I should do: update or not? The choice to update/change is yours to make, I would at least upgrade to a distro that supports/uses the 2.6 series kernel (all of the latest distro's you mentioned do so). I'm currently running FC2 (custom 2.6.8.1 kernel) using VMwareWorkstation-3.2.0-2230 (vmware-any-any-update81) with Windows 2000 SP4 as the guest OS with no problems. -- Hi! I'm a .sig virus!
