Subj : Re: Mandrake vs Suse To : comp.os.linux From : James Date : Fri Aug 27 2004 01:52 am I haven't posted in this newsgroup before, but I have been reading this thread. I haven't read all of it, probably won't, so I'll only comment on what I read. First, some have said that Americans are ignorant of the rest of the world. That's a reasonable statement, if you can prove that you aren't ingorant yourself. I ask simply if you have traveled the world, lived in Iraq, US, or any place else. Do you truly know what it's like to live in a country other than your own? When put in this prespective, I think it will become quite obvious that none of us are qualified to call anybody else ignorant, so let's just assume that we are all ignorant. Someone also said that our only allies are those with some ties to our nation. To that I only say, duh! Why else to countries ally themselves in times of war? As for bombing inoccent people. It's fine if you use those few cases against us, but only if you can prove that your country never did the same. Some make fun of us for using Russian inteligence. First, we didn't get all of our intel from Russia. Second, the intel which we got from various countries all said that Iraq had WMDs, and indicated that Saddam was planning to use them in the near future. There was overwelming reason to declare war. Sure now it doesn't seem that there was much threat, but hindsight is always 20/20. To those who say that the whole world was against us. There were more than double the countries that suported the war than those that opposed us in Europe alone. I couldn't find world statistics, if someone can get them please post them here. With the world statistics it may be that more were opposed, and in that case fine, you got that point. As for those who say that it was a war for oil, there is simply no evidence to support this, in fact, there is more reason to say that it had nothing to do with oil. Oh, and to actually respond to something to do with linux. Please don't support products based on where they come from. Get a good product no matter who makes it. I'd buy a distro from North Korea if it were the best I could find. If you think that is stupid, I'd be happy to explain my logic, but right now, I'm getting tired of typing. -James .
