Subj : CPU speed - /proc/cpuinfo question To : comp.os.linux From : jab3 Date : Mon Aug 23 2004 03:06 pm Hello everyone.  I have a question about Linux cpu speed reporting.  I've noticed that on my laptop (a Sony Vaio PCG-F650), Linux (both Fedora and Gentoo) reports that the cpu speed is ~200mhz.  It's supposed to be 600mhz (or perhaps 500mhz, there's some kind of switching thing IIRC :#)).  Is that really what it's operating at? Is there a way to change it?  I thought it had something to do with my spilling a glass of red wine on it a few months ago (which zapped the lcd screen, so now I have to plug it into an external monitor, which sux* ), so I booted into Windows to see what it said, but Windows reports 600mhz.  So now I'm confused and wondered if anyone had any info/clarification. Thanks for any help! * - BTW, if there are any hardward laptop wizards out there with a minute to spare; how possible/cost effective is it to have the lcd screen fixed or replaced?  It's not totally zapped, if the light in the room is bright and you look at the right angle, and the image being displayed is in bright colors, you can see the screen - just not well.  I looked online and saw something about the power inverter cable possibly being fried.  But I don't know.  Any ideas? (thanks) .
